will host the annual USAYPT Invitational Young Physicists Tournament for invited US and foreign high school teams of two to four team members. |
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS ATTENDING THE USIYPT 2011:
All foreign nationals must provide the following information to the Secretary, USAYPT
not later than 1 December 2010 in order to permit security clearance processing for the ORNL Lab Tour:
1. Complete name that matches a photo ID that you will bring
2. Country of citizenship
3. Country of birth
4. Date of birth

To implement the local
development of USAYPT teaching methodologies we offer annual memberships
to invited US and foreign high school teachers who sponsor and supervise the
research and development
of a student team and bring them to the
US Invitational Young Physicists Tournament in February 2010.
Student teams and their teachers who wish to compete in the 2011 USIYPT must:
1. Contact a member of the Board of Directors as soon as the team is considering competing in order to receive a written invitation.
2. Have a
sponsoring teacher who is a member of the USAYPT ($100 annual dues paid by 7
Jan 2011).

3. Provide their own round-trip transportation for themselves to the Tournment area, arriving as early as the afternoon of Wednesday, 2 Feb 2011, but not later than the evening of Thursday, 4 Feb 2011, and leaving the morning or afternoon of Sunday, 6 Feb 2011. If the team is driving, the team should drive directly to the Comfort Inn, 433 S. Rutgers Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 (phone: 865-481-8200). If the team is flying, the team should make arrangements to arrive and leave from the Tyson-McGhee Airport in Knoxville, TN. The Tournament organizers will provide ground tranportation from and to that airport to the Comfort Inn, Oak Ridge, TN. After check-in and throughout the stay, the Tournament organizers will provide necessary ground transportation from the hotel for all events beyond walking distance. Breakfasts will be provided at the motel daily. The Tournament organizers will provide lunch meals on Friday and Saturday and the supper meal on Saturday, which is a pizza party at the Comfort Inn.
4.Point of Contact for out of town inquiries is our Local Organizing Chair, Mrs. Marie Westfall, ORAU, 865-576-3425, or the USAYPT Secretary, Dr. Bruce Oldaker, 845-661-1347. A USAYPT host/hostess table will be established on 4 Feb 2011 with further contact info during the Tournament.
5. Send a registration fee of $50 per person for food and transportation in Tennessee and an accommodation fee of $60 per person per night for housing. Teams should plan on staying at the Double Tree hotel Thursday, Friday, and aturday nights (if a team stays a fourth night, the accomodation fee is $50 per person for that night). These fees are due on 7 Jan 2011. Make checks payable to the USAYPT. Foreign teams may use wire transfer after coordination with the Secretary-Treasurer, USAYPT.
6. Provide signed copies of the application and release of liability forms (see below) from the teacher and the student's parents or guardians to the Secretary, USAYPT, not later than 7 Jan 2011.
7.
Prepare a researched presentation of solutions to three of the four USIYPT2011
problems. Each team must
have at least three problem solutions prepared for the competition.
Each teams presentations must have all
associated
movies, photos, and tables. Each team's presentations must be able to be displayed as a poster using
hard copies of the presentation slides if the Tournament Director decides to use a poster session.
