OPENING &
CHALLENGE

REPORT The OPPONENT's job is to examine, critique, and debate the Report, looking for inaccuracies and incomplete work.

The Opponent is NOT ANOTHER REPORTER who really wants to tell the jury what they did as opposed to what the actual Reporter did! The Opponent is expressly forbidden to introduce his or her own research.

The Opponent must recognize both good and excellent aspects of the Report as well as poor and deficient points.

OPPONENT
PRESENTATION
The Opponent has three different things to do as soon as the Reporter concludes the Report.

In the first phase, the Opponent is allowed to ask oral questions of the Reporter for no more than 2 minutes.

This is the first time the Jury hears the Opponent speak and as they say in public speaking classes "you get one chance to make a first impression".

The questions that the Opponent team chooses should clarify any possible instances where the Reporter might have misspoken and also probe what will probably be the central thread of the Opponent's critique in the next two phases. This requires as much teamwork as the Reporter team, if not more.
